Just a quarter of the field is offering single figure odds in the Ladbrokes.com.au betting market for the race, which is led by firm favourite Ball Of Muscle at $2.30.

One of Joseph Pride’s three runners in the race, Ball Of Muscle has seen a lot of support in the betting following a good barrier draw. The gelding also has a stellar record to his name and looks hard to beat.

Will the stats prove true or will Ball Of Muscle fall victim to the hype? Check out our 2015 Takeover Target Stakes betting tips below to get a better understanding of the race.

#5 Ball Of Muscle ($2.30)

It would appear you can’t go past the favourite in the Takeover Target Stakes. Ball Of Muscle has continued to see support in the betting after the market mover’s price firmed from $2.50 into $2.30. The Joseph Pride-trained gelding has won a stellar six of his nine career starts and placed in the remaining three, which means he is yet to finishing outside the first three. He was a fast finishing second to fellow rival Barbed in the Listed Canterbury Classic (1200m) last time out but will get a better start this time around from barrier five with Glyn Schofield to ride.

#4 Barbed ($5.50)

All eyes will be on the rivalry between Ball Of Muscle and Barbed at Gosford this afternoon as they each try to beat each other home. If anyone can upset the favourite it will be John O’Shea’s Barbed. He already beat the gelding home last time out to win the Canterbury Classic and also scored a minor placing in the Welter Handicap (1000m) during the spring. Barbed has come into his own lately but will it be enough to beat Ball Of Muscle twice in a row? Especially considering the gelding has drawn wide in barrier 11.

#6 Cradle Me ($8)

David Pfieffer’s six-year-old mare is a good betting prospects for punters to round out their trifectas. Cradle Me will get a good start from barrier four and has already won on the tight Gosford track before. The mare also managed to finish third to top sprinters Our Boy Malachi and Dothraki in the Listed Razor Sharp Handicap (1200m) on December 13. The mare failed to impress against the top sprinters at Melbourne during the spring but should be able to hold her own this afternoon.
