Trainers Joseph Pride and John O’Shea each dominate the potential field with three horses apiece but it is the Con Karakatsanis-trained Howmuchdoyouloveme that headlines the nominations.

The six-year-old gelding won both the Group 3 WJ Healy Stakes (1200m) and Listed Lightning Handicap (1000m) during the 2013 Brisbane Winter Carnival but failed to retain either of his crowns on his return to Brisbane earlier this year.

After finishing second last in the WJ Healy Stakes on June 21, Howmuchdoyouloveme was spelled for five months. But with two winning barrier trials under his belt, the gelding made his return in the Listed Razor Sharp Handicap (1200m) at Royal Randwick Racecourse on December 13 which he unfortunately finished dead last in.

Pride could saddle a three-pronged attack on the Takeover Target Stakes after nominating Ball Of Muscle, Casual Choice, and Earnest Ernest.

Four-year-old Ball Of Muscle has finished in the first three in all nine of his career starts with the gelding winning both the Ranvet Sprint (1000m) and Tab Rewards Plate (1000m) earlier in the summer before finishing a fast second in the Listed Canterbury Classic (1200m) last time out.

Casual Choice will run in his first black-type race since the Listed South Pacific Classic (1400m) back in April 2013 after finishing third in a Class 6 Plate over 1350m at Doomben Racecourse on November 29 before just missing out on a placing in the Schweppes Handicap (1300m) last month.

O’Shea’s three nominated horses include Barbed, Haussmann, and Miniature.

Four-year-old Barbed won the Canterbury Classic last time out, just a head in front of rival Ball Of Muscle, after missing out on a placing in the Listed City Tattersalls Club Lightning (1100m).

Haussmann won the Schweppes Handicap ahead of Casual Choice last time out, turning around his form that saw the gelding finish midfield in the Listed Starlight Stakes (1100m).

Welter Handicap (1000m) winner That’s A Good Idea will represent Peter & Paul Snowden while Razor Sharp third Cradle Me has been nominated by trainer David Pfieffer.
