Midsummer Sun started his preparation with a ninth place finish behind Rock Sturdy in the Group 2 Shannon Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens on September 27 and was slightly outclassed in the Group 3 David Jones Cup (2000m) at Caulfield on October 18 before he returned to a semblance of his best form in the Vincents Accountants Handicap (1800m) at Rosehill Gardens on November 1.

The Monsun gelding was narrowly denied a return to winning form by Malice in the Cellarbrations At Valentine Handicap (1900m) at Rosehill Gardens on November 15 and he finished a credible third in the Listed ATC Cup (2000m) at Rosehill Gardens on November 29, but he was outpaced in the early stages of the Group 2 Villiers Stakes (1600m) at Royal Randwick on December 13 and he could finish no better than tenth.

Midsummer Sun stepped back-up to 2000 metres for the Summer Cup (2000m) at Royal Randwick on Boxing Day and he finished a credible second behind I’m Imposing; with trainer Sam Kavanagh happy with the form of his star galloper heading into the Gosford Cup.

“He is looking for the 2100 metres now,” Kavanagh told AAP.

“He has worked well since the Summer Cup and I couldn’t be happier going back to Gosford.”
